Biography
James Ryan, MD, is a cardiologist and professor of clinical medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He is also the director and radiation safety officer of the nuclear laboratory at the OSU Heart and Vascular Center at Stoneridge.
Dr. Ryan, who specializes in noninvasive diagnostics, was named one of America’s Best Doctors in 2009.
Dr. Ryan earned his medical degree at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va. He also completed a research fellowship in nuclear cardiology at the University of Virginia Hospital and a clinical cardiology fellowship at Ohio State’s College of Medicine.
Dr. Ryan has extensively published abstracts, book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. He also has made numerous invited presentations on nuclear and cardiac MRI techniques.
He successfully raised nearly $12 million in support of both cardiovascular research and Ohio State’s Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital. Dr. Ryan’s clinical interests include nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, heart disease in athletes and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.

At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

Dr Ryan h?s been my cardiologist for over twenty years
First provider to ever actually listen which is new for me. I really appreciate it.
The doctor seems okay. I don't feel like I really have a great rapport with the doctor. He comes in asks one or two questions, looks at my records, makes a recommendation then that's it until I have to come in next time. He's not good or bad it's just a routine visit.
He explained everything to me and my son in clear simple language and answered all questions in way we could understand.
Easy to talk to and explain the medicine. He listen to my concerns about my health problems.

I really don't have much to say regarding my care provider. He comes in, asks how I'm feeling, looks at the records I've been keeping regarding my blood pressure and makes a determination about what should be done. He listens to my heart and then the visit is pretty much over. I have more conversation and spend more time with the nurse who comes in after the doctor. No shade is meant for the doctor, it's just how my visits go.
