Biography
I am Katherine Brownlowe, MD, and I specialize in neuropsychiatry at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. My psychiatry practice focuses on caring for people with neurological conditions and brain-based disorders that affect mood, behavior, cognition and mental health. I treat patients with brain injuries, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, dementia and neurological tumors.
As a physician specializing in neuropsychiatry, I take a patient-centered approach that integrates neurological care with psychiatric care. I work closely with patients and families to understand the complex ways in which neurological conditions can affect daily life, with the goal of developing individualized treatment plans that support daily functioning, well-being and quality of life.
In addition to my clinical work, I am faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Neurology. I direct the Neuropsychiatry Clinic and serve as course director for the clinical neurosciences didactic program. I am also faculty for the Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry (BNNP) fellowship. In addition, I serve as Associate Chief Quality Officer for Behavioral Health and as medical director for the Behavioral Health Urgent Care locations at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. I am board-certified in psychiatry and in behavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry, which allows me to provide comprehensive care for patients whose neurological and psychiatric needs intersect. I am a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of the American Neuropsychiatric Association.

I am Katherine Brownlowe, MD, associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and I specialize in neuropsychiatry and the intersection of brain health and mental health.
I direct the Neuropsychiatry Clinic, serve as course director for the clinical neurosciences didactic program, and am faculty for the Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry (BNNP) fellowship. My research focuses on improving the recognition, evaluation and treatment of cognitive, behavioral and emotional symptoms associated with neurological conditions.
My work centers on understanding and addressing the psychiatric and neurobehavioral effects of conditions such as traumatic brain injury, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and brain tumors. Through clinical and academic collaborations, I seek to advance integrated approaches that bring together psychiatry and neurology to improve outcomes for patients experiencing complex neurological and mental health challenges.
I am committed to expanding knowledge in neuropsychiatry, educating future clinicians and promoting earlier identification of mental health concerns in individuals with neurological disease. My goal is to support research and clinical innovation that improves quality of life for patients and their caregivers while advancing the field of neurobehavioral health.
