Biography
I became a gastroenterologist because I am passionate about helping patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) lead full lives without feeling limited by their chronic condition. I specialize in treating Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and I regularly perform colonoscopies and upper endoscopies.
There has been a lot of exciting innovation in how we treat and manage IBD, and it is such a privilege to play a role in helping to make patients’ lives better. I enjoy developing long-term relationships with my patients, and I care for each person like I would a family member. I believe in cultivating partnerships with each patient to help them achieve their wellness goals.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I am involved in research efforts. My primary focus is on the intersection between medical and surgical care for IBD patients, and I have published research related to predicting surgical outcomes in Crohn’s disease patients. In addition, I am interested in exploring the impact of IBD management and in developing curricula to better teach trainees about caring for IBD patients. I have delivered multiple presentations about my research at national conferences.
My role at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center also involves teaching medical students, residents and fellows in clinical settings. I came to Ohio State for my residency program, and I’ve been proud to be part of this institution ever since.
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my wife and daughter. I enjoy biking, running, and listening to podcasts.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Dr. Allen has reported no relationships with companies or entities.

It was a 1st time appt with my new GI after my other left. He seem bothered that I've done a lot of research in 30 years of my disease, which causes me not to blindly agree to any 1st line plans of care. Needs some improvement on bedside manner. Never did an exam on me. Didn't order labs until I asked. Didn't make it clear on what could happen and when if I let my issue continue without any new treatments or possible surgery.
He is always amazing
I love Dr Allen. He spends a lot of time with me, never seems rushed. He really cares!
Let me talk & say what I wanted. Was patient with me. I didn't feel rushed
Dr Allen was very attentive and engaging in conversation about my health condition. I never felt he was rushing. Very thorough in reading my history before the appt. Talked about steps forward for my care.
Very good manners and easy to talk to.
I love Dr. Allan. Very thorough and took his time with me.
Very knowledgeable with helpful suggestions
He took the time to listen and explain things to me in a way that was easy to understand. I did, however, leave feeling very unsure of my "diagnosis" but don't necessarily think that's all of fault of the provider.
Dr. Kenneth Allen was an excellent communicator and listened to my concerns without dismissing my viewpoint. He spent all of the necessary time to explain and review pros and cons with me. He was kind and attentive.
Made me comfortable and then took the time to explain the process. Asked if I had questions and answered accordingly.
