Biography
I am a physician specializing in family medicine and the prevention and management of chronic health conditions. My practice at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center focuses on preventive care, women’s health, mental health, and chronic conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity.
I believe that the best care happens when patients feel heard, accepted, and empowered. I take time to listen without judgment and explain health information so that patients can make informed decisions as true partners in their care. Whether we are managing a new diagnosis, treating chronic conditions, or working toward a lifestyle change, my goal is for patients to leave each visit feeling more confident and capable of managing their health.
Preventive medicine is an important part of my approach to family medicine, and I view lifestyle as a key component of healthcare. I help patients manage depression, anxiety, hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia while setting goals that are realistic for their individual lives. I also provide contraception care – performing procedures including IUD and Nexplanon® placement – and perform colposcopies, endometrial biopsies, and common skin procedures.
Teaching is also an important part of my work. I serve as a core faculty member for The Ohio State University College of Medicine’s Family Medicine Residency Program. Teaching students and residents keeps me curious and continually learning, making me a better doctor for my patients. I believe that meaningful care and meaningful teaching are closely connected.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Lydia Karlsson has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
