About Me
I’m a gastroenterologist who specializes in inflammatory bowel disease with a focus on how these chronic illnesses impact women specifically. Inflammatory bowel disease affects women in unique ways compared to men because it can worsen menstrual symptoms, lead to iron-deficiency anemia and even impact your chances of pregnancy during flare-ups.
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I’m the director of women’s health in inflammatory bowel disease and the director of capsule endoscopy. I often use capsule endoscopy, a procedure that uses a wireless camera the size of a vitamin pill to check a patient’s gastrointestinal tract, to examine areas not easily seen with more traditional technology and to diagnose certain conditions. My research centers on these topics and has progressed to research trials in many instances.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 10/25/2021, Dr. Butnariu has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
This dr. really tries and cares about her patient. She listens and talks very up front.
She takes care of me like family. She is awesome.
All good. Very aware of my history even on my first visit. Was impressed
She seemed to know what she was talking about and was very thorough and friendly. She was a little dismissive of how medical marijuana has helped me manage my condition but did not discourage me from using it if I believe it helps.
They ignored my other issues and sesm to only see crohn's which is fine.
The Dr was very knowledgeable and knew my medical history.
My first time seeing this provider. She ordered blood work, which I got done right on site. Maybe used a little too much medical jargon but overall she was nice.
Listened well to my opinions and questions.
general good , but she was very busy and I didn't get to ask all my questions.
I really like her.
Dr. B always listens to me, sees me, and hears me. She always takes her time w/me and to me means everything. I wish all doctors took the time she does with her patients.
I was very impressed with Dr. Butnariu. I was nervous coming into the appointment and she put my mind totally at ease. She spent a great amoint of time with me and explained things very well to me and understood my concerns without making me feel pressured into doing anything. We made an action plan we both felt good about. I am so happy at how well things went.
I've been w/this dr. for several years. She has always met my need for care and information.
Dr. Butnariu has always given me great care. She was concerned about me having had COVID recently, and was happy that I recovered.
Excellent care, courteous, very knowledgeable re: my medical problem. After YEARS of having IBS, Dr. B. prescribed two medications which healed my problem COMPLETELY!! I only see her now for follow-up visits.
Very good
She is the first person that reviewed my record thoroughly and provided a plan
