As a general internist, my job isn’t just diagnosing and treating diseases, but promoting the physical, mental and emotional health of my patients. I love the breadth of my specialty and knowing that people can come to me with any issue they may have. I work together with my patients to create treatment plans that align with their personality, sentiment and expectations. As a physician, my goal is to build and maintain trust and open communication with my patients.
The best part about working at Ohio State is the people. They’ve helped make my transition here amazing. Everyone from the physicians and nurses to the support staff and administrative leadership is committed to providing exceptional care to our patients and quality education for our medical students and physicians in training.
When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my wife, our two amazing daughters and our dog, Ruckus. I enjoy playing disc golf at the awesome courses around Columbus and am an avid marathon runner. I also help write and produce a podcast for medical students and practicing physicians.
Please note: Not all physicians schedule patients at each listed location.
I joined the Division of General Internal Medicine in 2018, bringing with me an enthusiastic attitude towards research and education. Alongside my busy primary care practice, I am interested in the integration of comprehensive primary care and outpatient addiction medicine. I am actively seeking grants from funding agencies to learn how we can best treat patients with opioid use disorders within our primary care clinics and maintain those patients within treatment. I am working with physicians across the medical center to study and improve transitions of care of patients with addiction as they transition from acute care through addiction psychiatry services and into ongoing lasting recovery. Since joining the division, I have led the Division of General Internal Medicine buprenorphine prescribing efforts and has developed the nascent policies and protocols that allow the longitudinal care of people with opioid use disorder while meeting state and federal standards of care. Alongside this, I am a founding member and producer of Core IM, an internal medicine podcast now affiliated with the American College of Physicians for CME credit. At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Martin Fried has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
He is also pleasant, courteous, and respectful in conducting my checkup. While discussing my blood results, he didn't hurry through explanations to my questions. We discussed a plan of tests for 2026 and he ordered them while we talked. Although no rush, I liked that we were proactive in scheduling these tests. When I do have questions via MyChart, he or someone else answers quickly. He has a good sense of humor too!

Dr. Fried is very concerned with my health issues. Very professional and attentive.
Dr. Fried is most of the most caring and brilliant physicians I've known. He is steady , calm and always thinking of my best interests. I have referred my friends and family to him. In fact he is the PCP for two of my friends and couple more family members. Others want to go to him as well, but openings are hard to come by for he is an excellent physician and excellent person.
