Biography
I am Matthew Hadad, MD, and I specialize in adult reconstructive orthopedic surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. My practice focuses on hip and knee replacement procedures, revision joint reconstruction, and personalized surgical care.
My clinical expertise includes direct anterior and posterior hip replacements, total knee replacements, and partial knee replacements. I utilize both robotic-assisted and manual surgical techniques. Postoperatively, I manage surgical pain with a multimodal approach. I am passionate about caring for patients with problems with a prior hip or knee replacement and providing solutions for complex reconstructive challenges.
I grew up in Columbus and attended high school at St Charles Preparatory School. I then attended college at the University of Notre Dame as a Glenna R Joyce Scholar, and I graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. I went on to graduate medical school from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. I completed my residency training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where I served on the residency admissions committee and program evaluation committee. I was chosen by faculty as the inaugural administrative chief resident during my final year. I then went on to do my fellowship training in adult reconstruction at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
As an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), I am up-to-date with advances in joint replacement and reconstructive surgical procedures. I am active in research and have published over 25 peer-reviewed articles. I am also a recipient of the Heartsaver Hero Award from the American Heart Association in 2025.
I am excited to return to my hometown to serve the Columbus community. I believe in creating individualized care plans with a patient-centered approach. I will be seeing patients at OSU Powell and East.

Academics and research
I am Matthew Hadad, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. I specialize in research focused on patient outcomes after total hip and knee arthroplasty. My research focuses on improving the diagnosis and treatment of prosthetic joint infection and on advancing our understanding of socioeconomic disparities in arthroplasty care.
I am passionate about improving the quality, safety and accessibility of care for patients undergoing total hip and knee replacement. My work examines the factors that influence patient outcomes following arthroplasty, with an emphasis on identifying opportunities to enhance recovery, improve long-term function, and reduce complications.
A major focus of my research is advancing the diagnosis and treatment of prosthetic joint infection, one of the most challenging complications in joint replacement surgery. I investigate strategies to improve clinical decision-making and optimize treatment approaches that lead to better patient outcomes.
I also study health and socioeconomic disparities in arthroplasty care, seeking to better understand barriers that affect access, outcomes, and overall patient experience. Through quantitative research, observational studies, randomized controlled trials, surveys, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses, I work to generate evidence that informs clinical practice and supports more equitable care delivery.
My goal is to contribute to research that improves outcomes for patients undergoing joint replacement while helping to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of complications that affect quality of life.
