Biography
During my time at Kent State University, I gained experience in the world of sports medicine by working closely with Kent State’s Football, Baseball and Women’s basketball teams. I gained further experience as an athletic trainer in collegiate athletics working with both Gannon and Mercyhurst University. Outside of collegiate athletics, I spent the 2020 NFL season with the Cleveland Browns as a seasonal physical therapy/athletic training intern.
I join The Ohio States Sports Medicine team with experience working in a variety of sports medicine settings. While I have largely worked around football at the professional and collegiate setting, I am passionate about helping all populations to achieve a greater quality of life through movement and lifestyle modification. I am passionate about an approach to rehabilitation that focuses on combining functional movements and traditional strength & conditioning principles, to help all patients of any age or athletic profile move to the best of their abilities.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, Matthew Horgan has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
