About Me
I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the University of Notre Dame prior to receiving my medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine. I went on to complete a residency in emergency medicine at The Ohio State University where I served as chief resident during my final year of training.
After my residency, a year of fellowship within the James Oncology Emergency Department furthered my interest in emergency medicine. I studied the acute presentation, diagnosis, and management of hematologic and oncologic emergencies. My academic passions include hematologic and oncologic emergencies, palliative care in the emergency department, and ED operations.
Now, I'm an assistant professor of emergency medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine and medical director of the James Oncology Emergency Department.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Purcell has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
