About Me
I'm a dual board-certified vascular and interventional radiologist who specializes in interventional oncology, complex hepatobiliary care, genitourinary interventions, venous disease and reconstruction, visceral arterial disorders, women's health including uterine fibroids' care, pain management, vascular and dialysis access, and diagnostic imaging. I perform cutting-edge minimally invasive approaches to provide patients with better outcomes, shorter recovering time and reduced complications. I firmly believe that it's a privilege to be a part of the care of each patient and their treatment journey. My care philosophy is centered around listening to my patients, addressing their individual concerns and simply treating them as I would want a member of my family treated.
I particularly enjoy taking care of cancer patients and provide comprehensive care from the initial biopsy and chemotherapy port placement, to locoregional therapies including TACE/TAE/TARE and ablations, and lastly palliative therapies. I employ an interdisciplinary approach to provide patients with an individualized treatment plan and the best possible care. I partner with each patient so together we can achieve their personal treatment goals.
I also have special expertise in advanced venous interventions including endovascular reconstructions of chronically-occluded veins, management of deep venous thrombosis and IVC filters, as well as parathyroid venous sampling, and have been recognized for my pioneering work in all three areas. Additionally, I have a particular interest in minimally-invasive embolization therapy of symptomatic uterine fibroids and benign prostatic hyperplasia. It's a true joy and privilege to be able to serve patients with these conditions, and have the opportunity to develop individualized treatment plans that meet their needs and provide them with the best care possible.
Originally from Columbus, I'm proud to have had the privilege of obtaining my medical doctorate as well as completing both my interventional and diagnostic radiology training at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where I served as a chief resident. I'm dual board-certified in interventional radiology as well as diagnostic radiology, and I currently serve on the faculty of the Ohio State University College of Medicine. I'm passionate about academics and research, quality improvement and technology, and leadership and service.
Through collaborative research efforts, I strive to find better therapies and cures for my current and future patients. I have authored numerous scholarly papers, abstracts and book chapters, presented at national and regional conferences, and have been recognized for my contributions by prestigious research honors, academic awards and grants. As a recognition of my efforts in this area, I currently serve as the Director of Scholarly Activity and Research in the Department of Radiology.
I also serve in a variety of leadership roles as well as in institutional and national committees to help contribute to the advancement of the field and advocate for patients and their medical needs. I'm a member of several professional societies including the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), the Society of Interventional Oncology (SIO), the American College of Radiology (ACR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM).
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family, drawing, classical music, choir singing and jogging.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2022, Dr. Makary has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
