About Me
As a certified nurse practitioner, I specialize in caring for patients with a wide variety of neuromuscular disorders. I’m passionate about treating patients with conditions including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), myasthenia gravis (MG) and other neuromuscular issues. I regularly perform procedures such as muscle and skin biopsies.
My patients can depend on me to provide compassionate and up-to-date care throughout their health care journey. I’m involved in every aspect of their care from diagnosis to treatment and will help develop a customized care plan tailored to each patient’s specific needs.
I have been involved in research efforts for more than 15 years. I work with clinical research patients on a daily basis and I spend a lot of time working on clinical trials. I currently serve as the sub-investigator for 16 studies in neuromuscular neurology. I’m especially passionate about and heavily involved in ALS clinical research.
I’m a certified clinical research coordinator as recognized by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. I’ve held positions in clinical research including clinical research coordinator, senior research coordinator, research nurse and research nurse manager, and now as a nurse practitioner, sub-investigator. I’ve also presented scientific posters at the American Academy of Neurology, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Cure SMA annual meetings.
When I’m not working, I love hanging out with my son. I enjoy swimming, gardening, spinning, jewelry making and traveling.

She was amazing. You really do have some incredible doctors, nurses, and other staff. They are very kind, respectful, and thorough. I very much appreciate that they try to figure out what is wrong rather than running a few tests and just dismissing you because they don't know what is wrong. They haven't called me about lab results yet because they are not back yet.

Sarah Heintzman was the first neurology provider whom I felt actually took the time to listen to my concerns and come up with a good plan of action. She was attentive, kind and very down to Earth.
She met my needs, referring me to a genetic specialist and a respiratory therapist just like I asked.
Sarah is obviously passionate about what she does and the care and attention she extends to me the patient I sensed this Is someone I want on my medical care team to deal with this disease.
I usually see Dr Friemer and this is the first time seeing Sara. She had researched my illness, was very knowledgeable and even called Dr Friemer and genealogist to consult with me prior to my leaving. Her concern was genuine and recommendations followed up with reasoning for need. She spent 40 min working with me and I am very pleased and encouraged knowing I will be following up with her.
