Biography
I am Umang Khandpur, MD, and I specialize in diagnostic radiology with a focus on emergency imaging at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. My practice centers on interpreting a wide range of medical imaging studies including CT, MRI, X-ray and Ultrasound in order to support care in acute and emergency settings.
I deliver the highest-quality care to every patient by emphasizing attention to detail, timely communication, collegiality, and compassion. In my role as an assistant professor in the Department of Radiology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I work closely with clinical teams to communicate critical imaging findings clearly and promptly, helping guide timely and effective patient care.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I am interested in medical education, particularly in training the next generation of medical imaging specialists. I value opportunities to teach and mentor learners at the Ohio State University College of Medicine, while also advancing best practices in diagnostic imaging.

Academics and research
I am Umang Khandpur, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Radiology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. I specialize in medical education and medical imaging. My research focuses on advancing how we teach and evaluate imaging concepts, using a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches to better understand learning, performance, and ultimately patient outcomes.
My work uses mixed-method research to examine educational practices in radiology, including document review and observational studies. I also utilize secondary data analysis and real-world data to evaluate trends and inform evidence-based improvements in medical education. In addition, I contribute to systematic reviews and meta-analyses that synthesize our current knowledge and identify opportunities for innovation in training and practice.
A central goal of my research is to improve how imaging is taught across the continuum of medical education, from learners in training to practicing clinicians. I am particularly interested in developing scalable, data-informed strategies that enhance learner engagement, assessment, and clinical application.
I have been recognized for excellence in teaching as Teacher of the Year in the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. I bring leadership experience as a former director of healthcare education in a medical education organization, Picmonic, Inc. These recognitions demonstrate my commitment to bridging research and practice to support high-quality, learner-centered radiology education.
