Biography
I am a plastic surgeon specializing in treating a wide range of hand, wrist and upper extremity conditions at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I also perform limb salvage procedures, including for both upper and lower extremity conditions.
With comprehensive training in both plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as hand surgery, I am uniquely equipped to address my patients’ complex needs. I commonly care for patients who require tendon repairs, fracture fixation and microsurgical reconstructive procedures to help them heal from traumatic injuries or cancer treatments.
I am committed to providing personalized care designed to help regain function, alleviate pain and help patients return to the activities that matter most to them. I strive to help patients achieve their best possible outcomes and restore their ability to live fully and confidently. Whether a patient is dealing with a common hand condition or a complex traumatic injury, I will guide them through their treatment options with expertise, empathy and compassion.
I chose to work in academic medicine because I love the inquisitive environment and the multidisciplinary approach to patient care. I also find tremendous satisfaction in educating the next generation of physicians and surgeons, in my role as a clinical assistant professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in The Ohio State University College of Medicine. I had fantastic mentors who helped shape me into the surgeon and person I am today. I hope to pay it forward in my work with medical students, residents and fellows.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

As far as I'm concerned Dr. Xu is the best hand surgeon in the U.S. And the OSU hospital is very fortunate to have her.
My care provider listened to my concerns and provided helpful advice and offered to answer any questions through my chart, that I might have after the visit
I mentioned something that was happening with my other hand (not part of the original appointment) and Dr Xu took time to check the issue and recommend action. I also liked the way she was up front about the potential courses of action.

No results were found and didn't feel like there could be any resolution to my health problem. Feel like the answer given was - no nothing wrong with "that" and doctor said "we could run another test but don't think there will be anything there:. My symptoms are an issue, wish the doctor wanted to "dig deeper" to find out what is going on.
She helped me understand what was normal about my healing process and what needed attention.

She was very, very thorough and everything that she had said all of the possibilities the procedure the timeframe what different options could be what she thought the option we would be taking would be. She also ask me my thoughts what I wanted what I was worried about she was just very, very good at explaining every single thing there was to explain about the entire procedure. I did not really have any questions because she covered everything and then some, but she did ask and she made sure me and my husband both understood everything the possibilities the outcome how important aftercare would be just the whole 9 yards she was absolutely wonderful.
