Biography
I am a board-certified plastic surgeon at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center specializing in reconstructive plastic surgery, especially for patients with cancer and for those who’ve experienced traumatic injuries or infections. I lead the Craniofacial Trauma and Wound Reconstruction Program within the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
I chose a career in reconstructive plastic surgery because it is a privilege and a blessing to provide care to people in need and make a difference for them during their most vulnerable moments. My team and I are focused on restoring form and function, the aim always being to help patients regain and maintain quality of life after injury or disease.
My family came to the United States to escape poverty and danger, and I am proud to be a first-generation American. My parents often faced language and cultural barriers, which posed a challenge when navigating medical and social services. In addition, one of my sisters was born with cerebral palsy and required five surgeries as a young child.
My parents' vulnerable life experiences and my sister's challenges with cerebral palsy strongly influenced my decision to pursue a career in medicine. I am passionate about giving back to those vulnerable communities with whom my family identified, in the hopes of playing a small role in turning around someone else's misfortune.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 11/3/2025, William Abouhassan has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
