Biography
As a cardiac surgeon, I specialize in diagnosing and treating patients with various conditions impacting their heart and major blood vessels. I am the program director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I also serve as associate surgical director of The Ohio State Aortic Center, a multidisciplinary, collaborative initiative that I helped establish.
My patients can rely on me as a supportive partner throughout their health care journeys and trust that I will deliver high-quality, personalized care aligned with their unique needs. I value building genuine, long-lasting relationships with patients and getting to know them on a deeper level. Some of the most valuable time I spend with a person is in the clinic, where I meet their families and provide information and advice.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I am passionate about advancing research that can help provide better outcomes for cardiac patients, both here in our community and far beyond. At the Aortic Center, we are at the forefront of many national and international clinical trials that are helping to advance treatment options, and I’m proud to help lead these efforts.
I love working in academic medicine, and it’s an honor to collaborate and learn from other subspecialty experts at the top of their fields here at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. It’s also a privilege to pass on my expertise to the next generation of surgeons. My role includes serving as a clinical professor of Surgery in The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

Academics and research
I have a special interest in complex aortic disease, in surgery for the aortic valve and mitral valve, and in coronary artery bypass surgery. I am the program director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I also serve as associate surgical director of The Ohio State Aortic Center, a multidisciplinary, collaborative initiative that I helped establish.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I am passionate about advancing research that can help provide better outcomes for cardiac patients, both here in our community and beyond. At the Aortic Center, we are at the forefront of many national and international clinical trials that are helping to improve and innovate treatment options, and I’m proud to help lead these efforts. We conduct trials examining the effects of early surgical interventions on aortic aneurysms, trials examining how aortic surgery is conducted, research to identify the best way to perform coronary artery bypass surgery, studies comparing bypass surgery to angioplasty for coronary artery disease and studies examining postoperative care.
I have been published in some of the highest-impact journals in the world, including The New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation and the Journal of the American Medical Association. I sit on the editorial boards of some surgical journals, but I am most proud of having performed more than 3,500 open heart surgeries – helping people overcome illness.
