About Me

Takuya Wada, MD, is a cardiac surgeon at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, specializing in advanced surgical treatments for heart failure and complex cardiovascular diseases. His clinical expertise includes heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support (LVAD and ECMO), valve repair and replacement, coronary artery bypass grafting and complex aortic surgery. He provides expert care in all types of cardiac surgery and has advanced training in complex and low ejection fraction heart cases. Dr. Wada’s goal is to deliver safe, precise and compassionate surgical care to every patient.

Dr. Wada is part of the multidisciplinary team at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital, where he collaborates closely with cardiologists, intensivists and transplant specialists to deliver personalized, high-quality care for patients with advanced heart and aortic conditions.

His research interests focus on heart failure surgery, mechanical circulatory support and aortic surgery, with the goal of improving surgical outcomes and advancing innovation in cardiothoracic care. He has published research on outcomes in aortic dissection, aortic aneurysm and heart failure.

Dr. Wada completed his cardiovascular surgery training and fellowship in Japan before advancing his subspecialty training in heart failure and transplant surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital with Washington University in St. Louis, in Missouri. Fluent in Japanese, he is dedicated to providing compassionate and culturally sensitive care to every patient he serves.

His training in Japan and the United States exposed him to a broad spectrum of cardiac surgery, from coronary, valve and aortic surgery to advanced heart failure and transplant procedures. Working in academic medical centers shaped his commitment to combining evidence-based practice, surgical innovation and education. These experiences continue to inspire Dr. Wada to improve outcomes for patients with complex heart disease.
