Kolacz receives $3.8 million for research on music in PTSD treatment
Jacek Kolacz, PhD, research assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, has received a $3.8 million award from the U.S. Department of Defense. The award will be used to test whether pairing a frequency-modulated music intervention with cognitive processing therapy can enhance recovery in clients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The multi-site study will be conducted at Ohio State’s Suicide and Trauma Reduction Initiative for Veterans (STRIVE) program and Wright-Patterson Military Base in Dayton. The goal of the study is to improve PTSD treatment, particularly for aspects of hyperarousal such as anxiety, irritability and sleep disturbances.
Delisle wins publication award for his book
Dennis Delisle, ScD, FACHE, executive director of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s University Hospital and the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital, received the Shingo Institute Publication Award for the second edition of his book, Lean Healthcare. The award recognizes works that can help organizations improve their operations. His new edition includes a section on pandemic preparedness and offers practical strategies for enhancing organizational leadership.
Clinchot honored for outstanding contributions to medical education
Daniel Clinchot, MD, vice dean for Education in The Ohio State University College of Medicine, associate vice president for Health Sciences Education, chair of the
Department of Biomedical Education and Anatomy and professor of
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, was honored for outstanding contributions to medical education. Clinchot is one of four recipients nationwide to receive the 2024 Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges.
Iyer receives 2024 AMA grant to promote gender equity through allyship
Maya Iyer, MD, assistant dean for clinical track faculty, associate director of
Women in Medicine and Science and clinical associate professor of pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, was awarded the American Medical Association’s Joan F. Giambalvo Fund for the Advancement of Women scholarship to support advancing the study of women in the medical profession. Iyer worked with co-investigator
Jaclyn Caccese, PhD, assistant professor in the
School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences on a project that aims to provide specific examples of allyship and how it can be used as a strategy for equity.
Gumina receives $3.8 million NIH grant to study inflammation following heart attack
Richard Gumina, MD, PhD, director of the
Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and professor of Internal Medicine in the College of Medicine, received a $3.8 million, five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health to study inflammation following myocardial infarction (heart attack). Gumina’s team will determine how genetic differences that impact the function of a specific type of T cell called regulatory T cells (Tregs) affect inflammation after a heart attack.
