American Medical Graduates
We look forward to meeting each qualified candidate who applies to the Neurology Residency Program at The Ohio State University.
We participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), so please contact your medical school for instructions about the application process. We will not accept paper applications.
Your ERAS application is only considered complete with three letters of recommendation, the Dean’s letter and your USMLE (U.S. Medical Licensing Examination) or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX-USA) score reports.
Interview day by invitation
Our Program Director and Associate Program Director holistically review all ERAS applications and extend interview invitations to selected applicants. Interviews will be conducted on select dates between October and December. This year, we will have a hybrid interview format, with both in-person and virtual options available. Applicants may choose either format when scheduling their interview (subject to availability). No additional consideration will be given to applicants who interview in person, as we recognize that travel is not feasible for everyone.
The in-person option is simply intended to give applicants the opportunity to visit our beautiful campus, meet our residents and faculty in person, and experience the fun of Columbus. For applicants who choose to interview virtually, we will offer an in-person second-look event in early February. This event will take place after our rank list has been finalized and will have no impact on applicant rankings; it is intended solely for the benefit of applicants.
International medical graduates
International medical graduates (IMGs) may apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) as well. International applicants must have a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate and must be eligible for ECFMG sponsorship of the J-1 Visa as an exchange visitor for the entirety of their training. We do not sponsor H-1B visas.
Although there are no set rules on invitations to interview for IMGs, all candidates are compared with the current pool of applicants to evaluate eligibility. We consider these qualities to be desirable:
- Application within 3 years of graduation from medical school
- 3 months of formal U.S. inpatient clinical experience
- Two letters of recommendation from U.S. physicians familiar with your clinical skills
