Andrew earned his B.S. from Saginaw Valley State University in 2013. He then joined the PhD program at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, working in the lab of his mentor, Dr. Susmit Suvas. In 2014, the lab moved to the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, where Andrew continued his PhD work. Andrew’s dissertation focused on understanding the role of neurokinin 1 receptors and satellite glial cells during the establishment and maintenance of herpes simplex virus 1 latency in the peripheral nervous system during ocular viral infections. Andrew's current project focuses on the neuroregenerative potential of neutrophils in an optic nerve crush model. Andrew Joined the Segal lab in August of 2018.
