About Me
My approach to patient care is always focused on the unique goals of each patient. Whether a patient wants to return to a varsity sport or walk without pain, I work with each of them to establish goals and chart a treatment course.
I specialize in the treatment of sports injuries, including both operative and non-operative care. While I treat injuries throughout the body, my primary area of interest is the knee. I am interested in ligament injuries, such as the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and dislocations of the kneecap. My role as both a clinician and researcher allows me to translate the results of my research in these areas directly to my patients.
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we’re extremely fortunate to have access to top experts in every medical field and the best technology available. Our team approach to patient care allows every patient to benefit from these resources.

Dr. Magnusson provided relevant assessment and information regarding my injury. He listened to all my concerns and answered all my questions thoroughly and completely. He was very professional and kind.
Each department offered very helpful service and assistance.
Understood the pain, and took steps to work it out
Very Good
Very kind and compassionate.
He cares a lot and listened to me.
Dr. Magnussen is always respectful and caring.
Saw a resident first. She did a good assessment but wanted to jump into injections when I just wanted to know if my condition worsened. The attending valued my conservative approach and was very informative
I did not relate my concerns about the resident to the doctor. I am pleased with my doctor's care. He is knowledgeable, reassuring, and gentle. I am confident with his teatment plan.
Everyone was very attentive and pleasant
My care provider took a while to make it to my room but when he did he was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Willing to take time to explain things well.
He was extremely knowledgeable and diagnosed the problem very quickly and effectively. He was also very pleasant to talk to. He seemed like he was in a bit of a rush though, which I understand.
Very good
Amazing
Similarly cold - I got the impression that since I wasn't a sports medicine patient, but rather an overweight middle-aged woman, my problem couldn't have been handled by a non-surgeon. He even mentioned at the end of the appt. That I could follow-up with another non-surgeon ortho doctor. Ironically, I did follow-up with the non-surgeon ortho who ended up putting in a consult with a surgeon (I chose a different provider for that appt. )
He answered all my questions.
He did not do as much of visual assessment of the injured limb as his assistant doctor , but did a thorough explanation of the scans. He addressed my concerns and answered my questions.
I felt like he didn't care at all about my issue with my knee at all! He scared me, telling me my knee felt like it would pop out at any time. Told me the doctor who was doing my surgery wasn't a hack which was rude. Also told me he was going on a trip soon and I would have to wait. When I told him I didn't mind waiting if I trusted another doctor, he just laughed and told me it was a simple procedure but he would look at my MRI.
I liked him and his decisions for my treatment. Right on spot. Very happy with my whole experience.
Listened and explained situation well. Although since it was a new injury felt as though further testing would have been suggested
Dr. Magnussen was very caring and explained my problem to me and the concerns he had about it. He is also willing to seek professional input from others to see what the best way to fix my problem is.
Professional
Very professional
He was understanding, empathetic and listened to my concerns. He referred me to someone who could possibly help.
Good
Amazing
Knowledgeable, informative
Dr. Magnussen is thorough and caring, but never an alarmist. He worked hard to find the cause of my knee pain.
The care provider was patient, helpful, interested in my questions, offered honest suggestions.
Patient and excellent care
None. Attentive, informed, and great experience.
He seemed to not want to help me since I wasn't ready to get surgery. I was told to go to ortho clinic for treatment of arthritis but did not receive any help.
I love Dr. M. I have great respect for him - he's always giving me options or new procedures -
Observant and thorough. Takes the time to explain things.
I am looking for a good experience concerning my right leg.
He was fabulous at listening to my concerns, including my pain. He explained everything so it was clear to me and my husband. Good also at explaining all my options.
Explained in good detail. Took time to answer all questions. Showed visual results of my MRI to explain. Great listener.
Excellent.
Dr. Magnussen was very friendly engaging and spent time talking with me about my concerns. He also had a fellow (I believe) with him, so took time to explain why he was doing certain manipulations to us both during my physical examination.
Dr. Magnussen was very helpful and easy to work with.
Disappointed in the therapy route - much too costly & inconvenient & really only helped a little.
After injuring my knee on an out of state trip, Dr. Magnussen was willing to accept my imaging, review it, review my clinical options and coordinate my care at OSU. Immediately upon my return to Columbus. Could not ask for any thing better.
Very thoughtful, concise, and able to help me the day of my initial appointment.
I think provider profesional and knowlegeble, but think he was in a rush. Maybe, take more time with patient and listen.
Dr. Magnussen understood my need to remain active and prescribed a type of knee brace that will help stabilize it.
Magnussen makes me feel comfortable and heard. He is always smiling and welcoming.
The provider didn't seem to want to help me, he didn't actively listen and used prior medical diagnosis to determine care for a NEW injury.
