What began as an industry-wide golf outing soon transformed into an important fundraiser for Ohio State’s Burn Unit. The local chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers contributes its proceeds to help burn survivors of central Ohio.

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers' Story

“I think when this outing first started, it was all about playing golf and less about giving back to Ohio State,” says one member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. “But as we’ve worked with nurses and doctors and have seen the burn survivors, our focus has changed and now it’s all about raising money.”

The society’s members are local; many are Ohio State alumni or involved with Ohio State in some way. When they saw other chapters of their organization helping burn centers across the country, they were motivated to get involved with Ohio State.

“If we can help one individual or one family, that makes it all worth it,” shares another member. They became inspired as they learned more about the individuals they were helping. Touched by the results of their fundraising, the members began to see that they were really making a difference for burn survivors and their families.

The membership is pleased to have a way to give back to Ohio State and to see the outcome of their efforts helping people in need. “It’s such a great cause and they use the money so well,” explains another member.

Your support will help Ohio State’s Burn Unit and give burn survivors the care they need to recover.
