Driving High-Impact Innovation

Ohio State Sports Medicine was the first in the United States to implant a plastic device designed to help patients with persistent knee pain due to an injured or deteriorating meniscus, and the first in Ohio to use a tissue implant made from a patient’s own cells to treat knee cartilage damage. It was also responsible for the creation of a new surgical technique that makes Achilles tendon repairs stronger and more reliable. Our researchers use full-body motion analysis to examine neuromuscular training and interventions for improving movement and lifestyle for people with a high risk of injury.

Elevating Faculty and Academic Excellence

Both sports medicine physicians and orthopedic surgeons are part of our medical team, which also includes a range of health professionals including nurses, athletic trainers, physical therapists, exercise physiologists, nutritionists, researchers, sports performance specialists and sport psychologists.

Ohio State has more board-certified clinical specialists in sports or orthopedic physical therapy than any other health system in the region and is among the leaders nationally. These specialists will prevent, treat and rehabilitate sports injuries for more than 100,000 patients annually.

Making a Difference

By giving to Ohio State Sports Medicine, you are supporting a team of experts focused on improving performance and on preventing and treating common injuries that affect the athlete in all of us — from the professional and collegiate level to the everyday athlete.

With your help, we will strengthen our team by recruiting and retaining the top sports medicine faculty and staff from around the world. We will continue our outreach efforts to community schools and sports programs to ensure that the athletes of tomorrow perform to their best ability. Giving to Ohio State Sports Medicine will also fuel our research efforts to ensure that each patient receives a treatment plan built for their body, their injury and their sport.
