Lucy J. Schneiter, MSN, RN, served as a director of nursing at Ohio State and created a scholarship for staff nurses.

The Lucy J. Schneiter Memorial Scholarship in Nursing is presented to two staff nurses who are pursuing a degree in nursing to enhance their bedside, clinical and leadership skills. Congratulations to the 2023 scholarship winners Kecia Jeffers, BSN, RN, McCampbell Outpatient Care Ob/Gyn Clinic, and Adam Smith, RN staff nurse with pre-operative services at East Hospital.

The Power of Teamwork Award recognizes and acknowledges the spirit of outstanding teamwork within a group of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center faculty and staff who collaborate to achieve a desired outcome. The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) honored 9 East Rhodes with its PRISM award for a second time.

The award, which stands for Premier Recognition In the Specialty of Med-Surg, is given by the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board and AMSN to recognize exceptional nursing practice, leadership and outcomes in hospital medical-surgical units.

8WD earns second PRISM award

Raya Cupler earns ANA’s Early Career Nurse Leader Award

The American Nurses Association has selected 7 East Rhodes Nurse Manager Raya Cupler, MPA, BSN, RN, for its Early Career Nurse Leader Award. This award recognizes emerging members who have already made significant contributions to the nursing profession by seeking opportunities to be challenged, take risks, inspire and encourage others, and leveraging early career setbacks as a motivator to persevere.

University Hospital MICU earns gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) recently announced two gold-level Beacon Awards for Excellence for both of University Hospital’s medical intensive care units: 10 MICU and 11 MICU.

The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment standards.

The award signifies an effective and systematic approach to policies, procedures and processes that include engagement of staff and key stakeholders; fact-based evaluation strategies for continuous process improvement; and performance measures that meet or exceed relevant benchmarks. Only 30% of Beacon units receive gold designation.
