Strong leadership, empowered professionals and exemplary practice are essential building blocks for Magnet-recognized organizations, but they are not the final goals.

Magnet centers have an ethical and professional responsibility to contribute to patient care, the organization and the profession in terms of new knowledge, innovations and improvements. The current systems and practices at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, need to be continuously redesigned and redefined if we are to be successful in the future.

This component includes new models of care, application of existing evidence, new evidence and visible contributions to the science of nursing. We exemplify these components every day through our research, evidence-based practice and innovation.

Nurse shares her Spark Cart idea to address nursing burnout

As part of a Master in Healthcare Innovation project, Brittany Unthank, BSN, RN, created, along with her group, a Spark Cart to address nursing burnout and “ignite the passion for health care workers by cultivating and enhancing resilience through the work of innovation.” The group created a Spark Cart that was placed on 10 Rhodes and 10 MICU.

Clinical nurse-scientist and professor honored with Champion of Healthcare Award

Esther Chipps, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, has been named a Champion of Healthcare award recipient by the College of Nursing Alumni Society. This award is presented to a College of Nursing graduate in recognition of and appreciation for exceptional achievement over their career.

The recipient of this award demonstrates exceptional leadership and action in policy, advocacy, legislature and leadership to improve the health care systems either on a national, state or local level. Professional areas for consideration include practice excellence, education, administration, professional writing, evidence-based practice, research or public service.

Nurses share study on nursing documentation efficiency

In October, Amy Knupp, PhD, RN, APRN-CNS, CPPS; Holly Chignolli, DNP, APRN-CNP, MBA; and Sherry Levering, DNP, RN, shared their study on “Examining the impact of microlearning on nursing documentation efficiency and nursing satisfaction with electronic health record” at the American Nurses Association Enterprise Research Symposium in Chicago, Illinois.

Health System Nursing Excellence Fair winners announced

The 2023 Health System Nursing Excellence Fair was a great success with over 80 posters, 16 podium presentations and 400 attendees. The fair showcased the talent and dedication of our nursing staff. Attendees had an opportunity to select their favorite poster. The 2023 winners were:
