In 2024, the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center handled more than 60,000 hospital admissions, 124,000 emergency department visits, 58,000 surgeries and 3.2 million outpatient visits — each one supported by our team's timely and efficient delivery of essential resources.
The critical role of our Supply Chain team
Our team delivers more than just boxes; we physically transport life-saving medical supplies, equipment, and even human organs for transplantation with precision and care. We support over 100 facilities, including seven hospitals and 25 research centers, partnering with more than 110 departments, divisions, institutes and centers to ensure seamless operations and exceptional care.
We leverage cutting-edge tools and technology, including autonomous equipment and robots, to respond quickly to daily demands and health crises alike, ensuring our clinics and units are always fully equipped to provide uninterrupted, high-quality care to patients.

Meet the teams behind our supply chain
Our Supply Chain department is divided into four specialized teams, each playing an important role in supporting the seamless operation of our health system.
- Distribution and Logistics – This team ensures the timely and accurate delivery of essential supplies across the medical center, enhancing supply chain operations to support patient care.
- Business Operations – From purchasing and accounts payable to vendor maintenance and data management, this team provides the financial and operational stability required to deliver exceptional care every day.
- Strategic Sourcing – These professionals negotiate contracts and develop partnerships with external suppliers to obtain high-quality supplies and resources at the best possible cost.

This 26-story, 1.9 million-square-foot building is the largest single facilities project ever undertaken at Ohio State, and it’s the 10th tallest building in Columbus. Upon completion, it will be one of the most patient-centered and technologically advanced health care facilities in the nation, featuring:
- 820 private rooms
- 234 ICU beds
- 50 elevators
- 900 miles of network cabling
- 20 miles of fiber optic cables
- 1,300+ wireless access points
- 25,000 network connections controlled by 600 network switches
- 5,000 real-time location service (RTLS) devices to track medical equipment and improve efficiency
