Biography

I practice both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. I’m interested in complex abdominal wall reconstruction (hernia repair), the surgical treatment of migraine headaches, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breasts, chest wall reconstruction, body contouring, lower extremity reconstruction, and microsurgery.

What I enjoy about The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is how we take care of our patients. Working together, we try to solve problems using the latest techniques and technology. We approach each patient one at a time.

There’s no cookie-cutter approach, cookbook or recipe I follow. I sit down with patients and listen to their problems and concerns. I try to give them a result they’ll be happy with.

I spend the time to get to know my patients and appreciate their concerns. Then, I tell them whether I can reliably and predictably give them the results they want.

I treat my patients like they are my family. If it’s not good enough for my family, it’s not good enough for my patients.

Academics and research

My research focuses on migraine headache surgery, complex hernia repair/abdominal wall reconstruction, education, and pain management in plastic surgery, with an emphasis on patient-centered care informed by real-world data.

I have published over 320 peer-reviewed articles, 115 book chapters, and nine books, with two more books pending publication. I currently lead over 110 ongoing projects across diverse topics. Looking ahead, I aim to advance headache surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction – particularly durability, prehabilitation, and recovery optimization – while strengthening national surgical education and expanding the use of patient-reported outcomes to guide safer, more effective care.

I appreciate the commitment to innovation here in The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and the readily available resources that allow me to pursue highly complex research.
