About Me
As a surgeon, I specialize in performing advanced endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures to treat a variety of issues. I am passionate about utilizing cutting-edge technologies to provide exceptional surgical care for patients with conditions such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gallbladder disease, and hernias of the diaphragm, abdominal wall, or groin.
When evaluating a patient, I take a holistic approach to their care. I believe the best care is delivered when a physician takes the time to listen to their patient’s needs. I work with each patient to identify their goals and values and create a care pathway that is customized to their specific situation.
In addition to providing minimally invasive surgical care, I am passionate about developing and answering important research questions that can advance the field forward and improve delivery of care. My research interests include continuing to advance minimally invasive and robotic surgery capabilities, improving quality outcomes and ways to reduce opioid use after surgery. My research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and I have delivered many presentations at national and international medical conferences.
My role includes actively participating in the education and training of medical students, surgical residents and fellows. I am also an assistant professor of surgery at The Ohio State University.
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family, attending Ohio State football games and traveling.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Sweigert has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
Dr Sweigert in my opinion is very professional.
He calmly gave me the time needed and answered all questions
My care provider made me less stressed. To have a Dr listen to your issues is very comforting. I love that the Dr at OSU, has a team to help them. Other hospitals need this. It would put less pressure on the Drs and allow the Drs to hear the patient.
As a new patient Dr. S was amazing. He listened to what I had to say went over history any testing prior asked his questions from that we came up with a game plan couldnt ask for a better doctor
Dr. Sweigert is the best I could possibly ask for. He saved my life and I trust him to take care of me. I would highly recommend him.
Dr. Sweigert is very professional, courteous and friendly. He performed surgery to correct a medical condition I had and now I am completely better! Thank you, Dr. Sweigert!
Dr Sweigert Was fabulous throughout my surgery and follow up appt he went above and beyond to make sure I knew the risks and educated on everything prior. From preop to follow up I would suggest him to everyone!

Dr. Sweigert was one of the best doctors/surgeons I ever met. He explained everything I need to know and answered all my husband's and my questions.
My doctor and the student he had with him were nice and professional. They answered all of my questions and I felt they spent plenty of time with me.
Very thorough. Personable. Felt like my concerns were fully addressed.
He was very good
Very personal and professional
Provider completed by surgery and did an excellent job. The follow up visit he ordered blood work and I can see on MY Chart but I see no note from him as to what he was looking for. I was having issues with some foods after surgery and he said this was not common.
Very approachable and concerned about what would be the best approach options for my condition
Excellent
