Biography
I am an ophthalmologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating eye diseases with an emphasis on issues that impact the retina. I regularly see adult and adolescent patients for conditions including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, uveitis and retinal detachment, and I perform vitreoretinal surgeries.
My extensive training and hands-on experience in treating a diverse range of retinal diseases and uveitis cases has given me a solid foundation and the skills to tackle the most complex eye cases. I stay updated on the latest advancements to ensure my patients receive the most effective and innovative treatments available. Treating these challenging conditions also often requires collaborative team efforts and I’m proud to work with such exceptional colleagues here at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
I am deeply committed to delivering compassionate, personalized care throughout each patient’s health care journey. I prioritize building strong relationships with my patients and I always take the time to understand their unique needs and concerns.
My experience in academic medicine has profoundly shaped my career path. The mentorship I received inspired me to pursue a career that combines excellent patient care with rigorous academic research. These experiences also fueled my passion for teaching and mentoring the next generation of ophthalmologists, ensuring that the knowledge and skills I have gained are passed on. My role includes serving as an assistant professor of Ophthalmology.

Consulting and related relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

We had a very complete exam. Our provider was on evening call and the office was closed but he never rushed us or cut us off. We had a lot of questions but he answered every one and made sure we understood everything he told us. We were very pleased with Dr. Bergstrom and his complete staff.
He was active and knew his job and respectful
It's always a pleasure to interact with Dr Bergstrom, he is personable to the utmost degree and clearly at the top of his career
I like how he explains everything and gives me time to ask questions. Everyone in the office is very accommodating.
He told me to call if there were changes in my eyes and he would see me the next day. I never had a physician tell me that.
Dr. Bergstrom explained his findings and we discussed what was needed to fix my problem.
