Academics and research
I am a professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at The Ohio State University and the OSUCCC – James. My research focuses on diabetes, complications of diabetes, and hypertension, with a special interest in how inflammation and immune cells affect metabolic diseases.
My lab studies how changes in fat tissue and immune cell function contribute to diseases like atherosclerosis, fatty liver disease, and heart and kidney problems. We are developing new methods to prevent harmful immune changes, such as vaccines or anti-inflammatory agents, and working with communities to prevent diabetes. Our goal is to develop unique methodology to prevent pro-inflammatory immune cell changes such as a vaccine or specific anti-inflammatory agents. In addition, Dr. Hsueh is working with the Mexican American community in Texas to preserve islet cell function to prevent diabetes. Our research could help future patients by leading to better ways to prevent and treat diabetes and its complications.
I have authored or co-authored numerous articles published in peer-reviewed journals and presented my findings at conferences.
I am grateful for the collaborative and innovative environment at The James, which allows me to pursue research that can improve the lives of patients with diabetes and related diseases.
