As a physician, I’m passionate about family medicine for several reasons: (1) It allows me to help everyone from newborns to elderly patients, from all walks of life, and to manage a wide range of acute and chronic problems. (2) I enjoy how family medicine encourages me to be the coordinator for diverse, talented interprofessional teams, including specialists, pharmacists, therapists, dietitians and other providers. (3) I love building long-term relationships with my patients because I can celebrate, counsel, grieve and overall play a small but hopefully important role in their life’s journey.
I want to help patients understand their health better and make the best decisions for themselves and their loved ones. My role is not always to order every test or prescribe every medicine, but to find the right balance of care for each individual patient. I specialize in preventive medicine, which I believe is the essence of family medicine. My goal at every visit is to work with my patients to prevent the onset or progression of various conditions so that my patients can experience their lives to the fullest.
Since I attended The Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Indiana University for my education, I have seen firsthand the power of having academic resources at your fingertips. Additionally, when patients run into learners during their visits to my office, I encourage them to recognize the impact they’ll have on a student’s journey toward being a better, smarter, more caring provider!
In my free time, I love reading a wide range of fiction novels, listening to music and attending concerts, competing in and watching sports (Go Bucks!), playing trivia, and spending time with my wife and two beautiful children.

I am at an age (59) where health-wise, things are not going as well as I'd like. As a result, I have contacted my provider with questions (90% via MyChart message). I feel like he might think I'm a bit of a hypochondriac. I don't feel like he dismisses my questions and concerns, but I feel that he might think they're a bit overblown or tedious. To be fair, this may all be in my head!

Dr. B listens, responds and explains his answers to my questions. I feel like we have a partnership around my health. I have noticed that as we have gotten acquainted over several visits, he has gone beyond the obvious, immediate topics and gone into deeper and more personal subjects like having a living will and "code instructions". I think this is good practice.
