What is emphysema?

Emphysema, a type of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), damages the air sacs – or alveoli – in the lungs.

What causes emphysema?

Cigarette smoking is the most common cause. If you quit smoking, you may keep from developing the disease or stop it from getting worse.

What are the symptoms of emphysema?
