general tso's tofu on a plate

Serves: 4 Servings

Items Needed:

Air fryer, cutting board, knife, bowl, small saucepan, large bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Optional: sesame seeds and chopped green onions, for garnish

Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375F.
  2. Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes. In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch, vegetable oil, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Place the tofu cubes in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the tofu is golden and crispy.
  4. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer, then add the cornstarch slurry. Cook until the sauce thickens, stirring constantly.
  5. Once the tofu is done, transfer it to a large bowl. Pour the sauce over the tofu and toss to coat evenly. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if desired.
