Humana has notified The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and The James they’re terminating our network contract.
This means that our services, doctors, care teams and hospitals will be out of Humana’s network beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026.
We understand this news may be concerning. Our priority now is helping you understand your options so you can continue receiving the care you need with as little disruption as possible. We know how important it is for you to have access to the high-quality care, doctors and services you depend on here.
What you need to know
We have resources and information to help you in making decisions about your care.
- You don’t need to change doctors. You may have received a letter from Humana stating that you’ve been assigned to a new primary care doctor. However, it’s not up to your insurance company to choose your doctor for you or to change your current doctors. You can continue to see your current Ohio State doctor(s) by:
- Choosing a new Medicaid plan. Ohio Medicaid members can change health plans during the annual Open Enrollment period in November. Some members may qualify to change plans at other times based on their circumstances. See a full list of Medicaid plans that we accept.
- Continuing to see your doctor using your Humana insurance through the end of 2026 even after our contract expires. Humana has stated that patients who are currently receiving treatment can continue care with their current doctor for up to 90 days after Oct. 1, when our contract expires. This extended coverage period may help to protect access to your current doctor while you wait for your new Medicaid plan to take effect.
- Keeping all scheduled appointments. Continue to attend all appointments, tests and procedures. We remain in network with Humana through Sept. 30, 2026, and you have plenty of options for continued care after that date.
