Ohio State's Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation conducts rehabilitation research on topics that are highly relevant to the lives of the patients we serve. We constantly strive to improve our rehabilitation methods by developing and evaluating new assessment tools and interventions.
Feedback from patients and the Ohio Valley Center Advisory Council is used to direct our research efforts to areas considered to be most important by our consumers. To this end, the department has developed lines of research targeting traumatic brain injury and motion disorders.

A national leader in brain injury research, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is one of only 16 Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model Systems in the country for research on treatment of patients who experience TBI. Since 1987, we have studied the lifelong effects of severe TBI and played a pivotal role in improving care standards and treatments for TBI patients.
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Motion Analysis and Recovery Laboratory is the only lab in central Ohio to offer motion analysis for adults with walking difficulties. Our Motion Analysis and Recovery Lab, one of the few nationally to offer clinical evaluations as well as to conduct research, analyzes the way human movement is coordinated in order to optimize rehabilitation for people with motion disorders.
