What to expect
What to expect
Your surgeon isn’t only there for you during treatment. He or she is with you every step of the way – before, during and after.
Preparing for your treatment
Our plastic surgeons will meet with you to answer all your questions regarding eyelid surgery. Together, you and your plastic surgeon will determine the best treatment plan and design it specifically for your needs.
During your treatment
With upper and lower eyelid surgery, the actual procedure involves making tiny incisions in the upper and/or the lower eyelids. Our doctors make these tiny incisions in the natural creases of the eyelids so that any possible scarring is virtually invisible. Excess skin and fat are removed from the lids and the remaining skin is tightened for a smooth, firm appearance. The experts at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center perform upper or lower eyelid surgery usually in one to three hours on an outpatient basis, reducing surgical stress and recovery time for you.
After your treatment
After eyelid surgery, your eyes will be lubricated with a special soothing ointment. And for about two weeks after the procedure you may experience some mild bruising and swelling in the treatment areas. Any pain or discomfort can be minimized with medication. It’s also normal to experience temporary blurry or double vision, sensitivity to light and tearing several days after eyelid surgery. You should be able to resume your usual daily routines within a week, but strenuous activities should be avoided for at least two to three weeks after treatment.
