About Me

As a family medicine physician with a focus on sports medicine, I’m passionate about empowering patients to achieve optimal health and fitness through a collaborative relationship grounded in mutual respect, accountability and education. I primarily practice sports medicine and provide care to patients of all ages for musculoskeletal and sports related concerns. I frequently work with endurance athletes and overhead throwing athletes.

Having completed several marathons, including the Boston Marathon twice, and as a former nationally ranked collegiate boxer, I have a special interest in working with endurance and combative sport athletes to help them compete at their highest level. I am a team physician for Ohio State athletes and the Columbus Clippers (the AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians). I also provide ringside coverage for mixed martial arts and boxing bouts.

One of the benefits of working at Ohio State are the numerous opportunities for education. I am proficient in innovative technologies and procedures like musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound, platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections and Tenex (percutaneous tenotomy) and continue to seek opportunities to learn about the latest advancements. It’s my privilege to educate future medical providers through my position leading the fourth year medical student sports medicine clerkship and as a core faculty member of our sports medicine fellowship program.

Dr. Walrod is an excellent doctor. He helped me relieve disabling pain with an injection. Another medical provider outside of OSU wanted me to have joint replacement surgery. Thank goodness I got a second opinion and found Dr. Walrod. I don't need surgery and he found a treatment that relieves my pain. He also gave me instructions/exercises I can do to prevent future pain.

I waited for 30 min. to see him. He is respectful, but I cannot feel his concern about me.

Dr. Walrod has one of the best bedside manners I have ever had. He is friendly, he listens, and treats you like a person and not just a number. He doesn't look down on you (no question is dumb and doesn't hurry you through). If I could I could have him as my primary care physician in a heartbeat.

Dr. Walrod is the best doctor. Very professional, answers all my questions. Saved my life when he did a test on me. I thank God for blessing me with him. He is a wonderful doctor. The best! He takes good care of his patients.

In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

As of 03/26/2018, Dr. Walrod has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
