Biography

As a family medicine physician with a focus on sports medicine, I’m passionate about empowering patients to achieve optimal health and fitness through a collaborative relationship grounded in mutual respect, accountability and education. I primarily practice sports medicine and provide care to patients of all ages for musculoskeletal and sports related concerns. I frequently work with endurance athletes, overhead throwing athletes and combative sports athletes.

Having completed several marathons, including the Boston Marathon twice, and as a former nationally ranked collegiate boxer, I have a special interest in working with endurance and combative sport athletes to help them compete at their highest level. I am one of the physician leaders for the Endurance Medicine team and I head up the Endurance Medicine Performance Clinic. I am also the physician lead for the Tactical Medicine program and I serve as the physician contact for the ROTC cadets at OSU and the Columbus Division of Police SWAT. I also provide ringside coverage for mixed martial arts and boxing bouts.

In addition, I have over 10 years working with professional baseball and I am currently one of the team physicians for the Columbus Clippers (the AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians). Finally, I am a team physician for the Ohio State Buckeyes, providing event and training room coverage for numerous Buckeye student athletes. I am honored to provide sports medicine care for athletes across the entire spectrum, from Olympic Gold Medalists, UFC fighters, World Series champions and elite ironman triathletes to recreational runners and cyclists who want to improve their time and also to parents with shoulder and knee pain who want to be able to play with their children.

Academics and research

One of the benefits of working at Ohio State are the numerous opportunities for education. I was drawn to Ohio State by the opportunity to teach medical students, residents and fellows. It’s my privilege to educate future medical providers through lecturing first year medical students during their musculoskeletal (MSK) block and also serving as the director of the fourth year medical student sports medicine clerkship. I am an assistant program director for our primary care sports medicine fellowship program.

I routinely collaborate with other physicians and scientists to publish original research, case reports and book chapters. I led a multidisciplinary group of physicians to publish original research on the use of MSK Ultrasound as an adjunct to MSK anatomic education. I also was the primary author and editor of an interactive ibook to teach the MSK physical examination.

I continue to seek opportunities to learn about the latest advancements in MSK and Sports Medicine. I am proficient in innovative technologies and procedures like MSK ultrasound, platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections, Tenex (percutaneous tenotomy), and extra corporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT).
