The Cancer Rehabilitation Program at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, serves people who need help regaining function or independence lost to symptoms of their cancer or related to side effects of oncology treatments. Whether your cancer requires you to stay at our inpatient Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital or you need outpatient rehabilitation services, our physical medicine and rehabilitation experts will be with you throughout your recovery journey.

Inpatient cancer rehabilitation outcomes
In 2024, our inpatient Cancer Rehabilitation Program treated 178 people. Roughly 54% of the cancer rehabilitation patients were male and 46% were female, and the average age was 63. They stayed an average of 12.45 days at Dodd and spent three and a half hours a day in therapy.
Our patients’ perseverance shows in our home discharge rates, with 77% of cancer patients were discharged from Dodd straight to home – 90.8% were back in their own homes within 90 days of their discharge from the hospital.

What progress have you made?
Higher scores mean increased levels of independence. Our cancer patients experienced, on average, a 61% increase in the functional areas of self-care and mobility.

Outpatient cancer rehabilitation outcomes
We bring the same quality and compassion of our inpatient care to our outpatient cancer rehabilitation services. Our expert physiatrists and therapists offer these treatments at locations throughout central Ohio.
In 2024, we treated 69 cancer patients in our outpatient cancer rehabilitation program. Cancer patients had an average of 8.62 visits over the course of 8 weeks of treatment.
