About Me
My expertise in minimally invasive surgery and other procedures offers many benefits for my patients. I specialize in laparoscopic abdominal surgery, including foregut (esophagus and stomach), hernia and biliary disease.
I know that each patient is an individual with different needs and problems. By treating each one on a case-by-case basis, I help them to get through whatever difficulty they have that needs surgical attention.
Education is important to me. I like my patients to be as educated as possible about their disease process. This can be as simple as explaining to them what is wrong and how we fix it, or as detailed as watching videos about how their surgery is performed. This, too, is tailored on a case-by-case basis.
I enjoy the team mentality that we have here at Ohio State. Everyone is working for the betterment of the patient, and that really helps me to take better care of people.
When I'm not working, I take time to relax with my family, read and enjoy the outdoors.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.

I was impressed by the intelligence and understanding shown by the doctor. He had a much better understanding of my issues than two other doctors I had previously seen about the problem.

He came off to me as a bit arrogant. I brought medical records which he never looked at. Didn't feel like he really listened to my complaints. Instead he laid out the options and then asked "what do you want to do?" On the positive side he did explain those options fairly well and answered questions, but would have been nice if he showed a little more compassion and interest in what I've been through over the years dealing with this particular problem.

Listen and answered questions
The doctor was very knowledgeable and explained the surgical plan clearly. He took the time to answer all of my questions and - based on other symptoms I described - he recommended a combo surgery with a surgeon from another department. This will avoid having to have two separate surgeries.

He was very efficient and explaining everything to me so that I understood it. Made sure that I had all of the scans I needed to have scheduled set up before I left and a follow-up appointment on the same day I got the scans to go over them in the results.

He made a comment to ask if I was sure I wanted to get my tubes removed and not just tied even though this visit was not about that and that's between me and my OBGYN. I didn't appreciate that.
