About Me

My expertise in minimally invasive surgery and other procedures offers many benefits for my patients. I specialize in laparoscopic abdominal surgery, including foregut (esophagus and stomach), hernia and biliary disease.

I know that each patient is an individual with different needs and problems. By treating each one on a case-by-case basis, I help them to get through whatever difficulty they have that needs surgical attention.

Education is important to me. I like my patients to be as educated as possible about their disease process. This can be as simple as explaining to them what is wrong and how we fix it, or as detailed as watching videos about how their surgery is performed. This, too, is tailored on a case-by-case basis.

I enjoy the team mentality that we have here at Ohio State. Everyone is working for the betterment of the patient, and that really helps me to take better care of people.

When I'm not working, I take time to relax with my family, read and enjoy the outdoors.

I was so happy to finally find a provider that could determine what was actually wrong with me (gallbladder). I had had numerous tests previously with no clear diagnosis and I felt that no one cared to help me find out what was wrong. Within 5 minutes of my appt, Dr. Renton was able to determine what was wrong and how we could fix things.

Dr Renton was very professional, while also making me feel comfortable discussing my potential issue. He explained things very clearly

The surgeon seems to have done a fine job on the surgery itself but patient care is not his strong suit. Every conversation was rushed, and every question was met with a snarky comment instead of an answer. I still don't know if there's any prescribed best practice for increasing my level of activity because when I asked about it he told me "you're 46, it's all downhill from here. Just use common sense. Next it'll be your knees, then your hips, your body is basically caving in on itself. Maybe just try the pool or an eliptical machine".
