Congratulations to Nathan Williams, one of the patient care associates serving 9 West Doan, for being nominated and selected as one of this quarter's BUCK-I Award winners!

The Bringing the Utmost Care and Kindness to Individual patients (BUCK-I) Award recognizes Health System ancillary nursing staff (non-RNs who report to a nurse manager) for extraordinary acts of compassionate care they demonstrate in their work with patients. Winners of this award are known for exemplifying the mission, vision and values of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and truly making a connection with the patient and family through trust and emotional support, often going above and beyond the call of duty.

"The staff on 9 West Doan all trusts Nathan to take on difficult situations, and he is always up for the challenge. Nathan’s empathy and sincerity come through when taking care of his patients, and recently we had a patient who will never forget him. This patient had a flame burn from a tiller explosion. The patient was in serious condition and he was very sick for a while. He became depressed and did not think he was going to make it out of the hospital. The patient could not use his arms and became dependent on others for many of his needs. Nathan would go into the patient’s room to sit and feed him and talk and comfort him for hours. This patient opened up to Nathan, talking about his life before his burn and how he missed his family. Nathan showed him compassion and encouragement on such a personal level. You can tell this patient appreciated Nathan and the comfort he brought him because this patient always asked for Nathan. When he saw Nathan he would smile and get excited knowing his buddy was there. These examples are regular occurrences for Nathan and he deserves to be recognized for everything that he does." -9 West Doan Team
