About Me
I am the CEO emeritus of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and an emeritus professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in The Ohio State University College of Medicine. During my time as CEO, I proudly led the medical center to its first ranking on U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” Honor Roll. I also directed a more than $1 billion expansion project, which included construction of the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
I am a leading expert on the complications of diabetes in pregnancy, as well as on resiliency and burnout in academic medicine.
I am a member of the National Academy of Medicine. I previously served as president of the American Gynecological & Obstetrical Society (AGOS), the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Investigation (SRI) and the Council of Chairs of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
I have also served as senior editor of the leading obstetrics textbook Obstetrics: Normal and Problem Pregnancies, which is now in its eighth edition.
I am married to Patricia T. Gabbe, MD, MPH. We have four adult children and three grandchildren.

Consulting and Related Relationships
At The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, we support a faculty member’s research and consulting in collaboration with medical device, research and/or drug companies because a faculty member’s expertise can guide important advancements in the practice of medicine and improve patient care. In order to provide effective management of these relationships, the University requires annual disclosures from all faculty members with external interests related to their University responsibilities.
As of 09/30/2024, Dr. Gabbe has reported no relationships with companies or entities.
