Understanding the Mindfulness in Motion program
What if a simple practice of mindfulness meditation over a few weeks could significantly decrease your stress level and improve your overall mood and even job performance?
Mindfulness-based stress reduction is the intention of the eight-week, evidence-based Mindfulness in Motion (MIM) Program from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
MIM is a simple, evidence-based program to reduce stress and burnout while improving resiliency and work engagement.
Eight weeks of live (either in-person or virtual), weekly group mindfulness meditation sessions include the following:
- Personal reflection
- Relaxing music
- Community building
- Mindfulness
- Breathwork
- Gentle yoga
- Meditation
Based on two decades of mindfulness research, the program supports all participants, from health care workers and first responders to patients with chronic illnesses.
What is Mindfulness in Motion?
Maryanna Klatt, PhD, director of the Center for Integrative Health, describes the eight-week evidence-based program she created at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center that brings the skills of mindfulness to regular people.

Key benefits of the program
MIM participants report experiencing benefits of mindfulness within a few weeks of starting the program. These include:
- Decreased burnout, perceived stress and inflammation
- Increased resiliency, sleep quality and work engagement
- Renewed sense of meaning and purpose
- Strengthened ability to become more present
- Recognition of habits and responses to stress that may be holding you back
MIM program tailored to your needs
Stop, breathe and carry on with a changed perspective.
This small practice integrated into the stressful day of a health care worker or first responder can be a powerful step in building resiliency and effective coping skills. Our team helps participants learn this and more in the Mindfulness in Motion program.
From firefighters to cardiac nurses, the eight-week course is ideal for anyone coping with high-stress work environments and challenging personal circumstances. All videos, discussions and mobile app content focus on general stress reduction principles and mindfulness exercises. We tailor the MIM intervention to specific groups, work environments or patient populations.
Existing MIM program groups include the following:
- Health system employees
- First responders
- High-stress work employees
- Busy working adults
- Mindful Aging: Meaningful Retirement
- Sickle cell patients and care givers
