The Stroke Rehabilitation Program at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, helps people get back on their feet after they experience a stroke. Whether you need an inpatient stay at Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital or your stroke care requires only outpatient rehabilitation services, our physical medicine and rehabilitation experts will be there every step of your stroke recovery journey.

Inpatient stroke recovery outcomes
In 2025, our inpatient stroke program treated 233 people. About 58% of stroke patients were male and 42% were female, and the average age was 63. They stayed an average of 13.3 days at Dodd and spent 3.2 hours a day in therapy.
After stroke rehabilitation, 71.5% of stroke patients were discharged from Dodd straight to home – 90.4% were back in their own homes within 90 days of their discharge from the hospital. About 8.7% of people needed transferred to a medical hospital for unplanned medical care.

What progress have you made?
Higher scores mean increased levels of independence. Our stroke patients experienced, on average, a 60% increase in the functional areas of self-care and mobility.

Outpatient stroke recovery outcomes
We bring the same quality and compassion of our inpatient care to our outpatient stroke program. Our expert physiatrists and therapists offer these services at locations throughout central Ohio.
In 2025 we treated 670 stroke patients in outpatient stroke rehabilitation. Stroke patients had an average of 17 visits over the course of 51 days.
