Family medicine physicians are primary care doctors who take care of people of all ages, from babies to older adults. They treat various health problems and help keep everyone in the family healthy.
General internal medicine physicians, also called internists, focus on adults. They treat many different diseases and conditions but usually do not see children.
Advanced practice providers include nurse practitioners and physician assistants. They can also treat many health issues and work alongside doctors to help patients.

Community Partnerships

The Mid-Ohio Farmacy is a program started in 2019 by a partnership of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Mid-Ohio Foodbank (MOFB). Family Medicine patients identified by their provider as having limited access to nutritionally adequate foods and who have specific chronic health conditions are prescribed extra access to fresh produce through the MOFB.

This free clinic is offered at our Family Medicine Thomas Rardin clinic in the Primary Care Northwood-High location. The clinic provides care one half day per week for non-English-speaking patients, primarily the indigent population. The Ohio State University Department of Family and Community Medicine jointly sponsors this program with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, the James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, the Family Medicine Foundation, the Coalition for Asian American Health, the Asian American Community Services, the Asian American Community Service Council and the Southeast Asian United Methodist Ministries of Central Ohio.

This free clinic is run by medical, pharmacy and social work graduate students from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health and supervised by volunteer physicians in the community. Primary care providers see patients for long-term care and urgent care needs every Thursday evening at our Family Medicine Thomas Rardin clinic in the Primary Care Northwood-High location. The medical students at the Columbus Free Clinic received a Caring for the Community grant for student-initiated programs by the Association of American Medical Colleges in collaboration with the Pfizer Medical Humanities Initiative.

The Family Medicine Thomas Rardin clinic in the Primary Care Northwood-High location houses the Latino free clinic, which provides care two half days per month for Spanish-speaking patients, primarily the indigent population. Created in December 2000, La Clinica Latina is a jointly sponsored program among The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, the Latino Health Alliance and Saint Vincent’s Family Services.

The Noor Free Clinic is staffed by Muslim physicians and nurses from the central Ohio community. The Columbus Noor Community Clinic is a partnership with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, The Ohio State University Primary Care Network, the Arthur James Cancer Hospital and Richard Solove Research Institution and the Muslim Clinic of Ohio (MCO) Columbus chapter. Medical students are encouraged to participate.
