The Arthritis and Joint Integration Program offers rehabilitation services to help you at each phase of your rehabilitation — from services offered in the hospital (known as inpatient services) to those offered after returning home (known as outpatient services). What You Can Expect From Rehabilitation

Following a physician's referral, your arthritis/joint rehabilitation may include:

  • An evaluation of your movement and function
  • Exercises to control joint pain and swelling and to protect your joints from further damage
  • Exercises to improve strength, movement, control and fitness
  • Therapeutic joint mobilization techniques
  • Recommendations for adaptive equipment that can protect your joints
  • Instructions about how to perform activities of daily living safely
  • Mobility training (walking, stair climbing, moving from place to place)
  • Pain management through appropriate activity and modalities, such as heat and cold therapy and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
  • Patient support and education
