- Lead Physician: Ataxia Clinic, Multidisciplinary Cerebellar Symptom Management Clinic
A critical mission of the Neurology department at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center is to provide highly skilled diagnostic services and personalized, comprehensive care for neurological disorders, at a level of expertise typically only available at academic tertiary medical centers. The following list of clinics were developed to support those living with neurogenetic disorders and their caregivers.
Goal: To identify the causes of ataxia for a specific individual and manage associated symptoms.
This clinic is led by a physician who specializes in underlying disorders related to ataxia. Symptoms of ataxia can include gait and balance difficulties, loss of dexterity, tremors and speech and swallowing difficulties. We investigate both genetic and non-genetic causes of ataxia. For genetic causes of ataxia, we conduct comprehensive pre- and post-test genetic counseling with genetic (DNA) test submission. Established patients with ataxia could further benefit from being seen at the Multidisciplinary Cerebellar Symptom Management Clinic.
